Tanjung Manis

As the global population continues to rise and the need for food and food security becomes more pressing, large areas of land suitable for agriculture will become increasingly valuable.

So whilst much of SCORE is about industrialization, the fertile land bank at the Rajang river delta known as TanjungManis will become the centre for upstream and downstream agriculture and aquaculture activities.

In 2010, TanjungManis was appointed a Halal Hub with accreditation from HALMAS which means that industry players and halal park operators qualify for incentives given by the Halal Development Corporationto assist existing and potential industry players.

Connectivity infrastructure is already in place with an airport, port and road to the major town of Sibu already in place and investor interest and commitment has been significant. However for a successful agricultural industry, there is a need for an abundant and reliable supply of raw and treated water.

So phase one of the development of TanjungManis to run from 2011 – 2014 aims to meet the and treated water needs of investors with a pipeline from Gerugu Dam in Sarikei to TanjungManis to provide approximately 107 million litres per day (MLD) of raw water. Construction of additional intake stations, pump stations and treatment stations will be commence in early 2013 and are scheduled to be operational by 2015.

Phase two from 2015 – 2017 and phase three from 2018 – 2020 will continue to develop infrastructure in line with existing and potential investor needs which are estimated to be an additional 90 MLD for current potential project development. It is proposed to transfer as much as 160 MLD of water from Sibu and another 30 MLD water has been proposed to meet the requirements of additional food processing facilities and other use.

Meanwhile investment in support infrastructure such as access roads, utilities, energy and telecommunications will be improved whilst the development of the TanjungManistownship will be developed by zone.

On completion, TanjungManis Halal Hub will be the largest and most advanced integrated Halal Hub in the world. For more information, please visit Tanjung Manis Halal Hub.
